7-7,5 thousand abortion rate reported in ArmeniaDecember 19, 2011 - 14:50 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Abortion rate in Armenia is dropping, with 4 births per 1 abortion noted in 2011 against 4 abortions per 1 birth in past years, according to the chief obstetrician-gynecologist of Armenian Ministry of Health. At news conference in Yerevan, Razmik Abrahamyan noted the annual abortion rate in Armenia to reach 7-7,5 thousand. “The 1996’s National Program for Reproductive Health is yielding results, with major changes occurring in the consciousness of people who won't abort pregnancy without strong reasons,” the expert remarked to explain the slump in abortion rate. “Also, Armenia is one if the few countries where the number of home abortions totals 0,3% and that of home births nears zero,” Abrahamyan said. As a result of floods in Armenia’s northern Lori and Tavush provinces, 17 bridges, including five large ones, have collapsed. David Vardanyan is the son of former Karabakh leader Ruben Vardanyan who who is currently imprisoned in Azerbaijan.
