Playing Conspirology?

Building a system based on false premises is the avocation of most of the Armenian “politicians and political scientists”.

The recent bulk of incomprehensible and apparently inadequate information in the Armenian mass media, in our opinion, pursues several objectives, the principal of which is to disorient the Armenian society and to assure that there are certain forces crucially interested in the destruction of the Armenian state. All this fits into some Conspirology now discussed by almost everyone who in some way observes the situation in the region.

PanARMENIAN.Net - Conspirology, i.e. theory of conspiracy, is a set of hypotheses that attempt to explain events or processes by conspiracy of some advanced powers. It should be noted that Conspirology is devoid of common sense; it has no evidence of reliability of sources. Moreover, according to a number of researchers, Conspirology is like the thinking of a paranoiac, who fancies conspiracies against him. Proponents of the theory of conspiracy believe that everything is directed against the groups to which they belong or with which they identify themselves. Any attempt to refute the theory of conspiracy can be interpreted by its followers as part of the conspiracy itself. The Armenian version of it looks like this: you don’t know anything; here is the name of an incomprehensible center or council of experts, who know everything; but the Armenians, as a rule, do not believe anything...

Very often information leak comes from Russia, rarely from the U.S. and almost never from Europe. As it was in the recent two cases, on closer examination the published information is beneath criticism and disappears as quickly as it appears. But all the other publications directly or indirectly affect the state of mind, liable to any outside influence of the Armenian elite, and as a result we get panic and despair.

As an example can serve two statements about almost one and the same issue, the first from some “European” service, the second from a certain center. Let us recall that the Forum of Armenian Associations of Europe (FAAE) issued a statement about deployment of U.S. and Russian peacekeepers in the conflict zone. Here Medvedev and Erdogan are viewed respectively in the roles of Lenin and Ataturk. They say history has the habit of repeating itself, but, in fact, this is simply a common proverb. What was reality in the past century can hardly be realistic in the XXI. Geopolitical layout of the region has changed; the same is true about Turkey and Russia. Neither Armenia is what it was in 1918. But building a system based on false premises is a favorite pastime for most of the Armenian “politicians and political scientists”. As for the rumors about deployment of NATO forces in Nagorno-Karabakh, it’s funny enough to make a cat laugh. But the worst thing is that people believe these tales and start drawing their own schemes, following the same theory of conspiracy: the whole world is against Armenia...

The only news that appeared after the meeting in St. Petersburg was the really new proposals on the regulation of the Karabakh conflict, because of which Ilham Aliyev slammed the door and made an attempt of a small war. This time he failed. However, unfortunately, there is no guarantee against such attempts in future. Besides, the reaction of the OSCE Minsk Group once again proved that its duties do not include correct assessment of the actions of either side. When a similar incident occurred in 2007, the OSCE Minsk Group was tougher in its estimates.

Only one, relatively honest politician appeared these days - Foreign Minister of Austria Michael Spindelegger - who openly said that the Austrian Embassy in Baku is necessary for the Nabucco project. Hopefully, the hydrocarbons will become the leverage to put pressure on Aliyev. But this is the case if the Nabucco project is not interrupted, because in case it fails, Baku will have nothing to lose, both before and after the war.
