SMBATYAN: INTERREGIONAL COOPERATION BETWEEN ARMENIA AND RUSSIA EXPANDING

PanARMENIAN.Net - The development of the Armenian-Russian cooperation continues on the whole spectrum, stated Armenian Ambassador to Russia Armen Smbatyan, reported RIA Novosti. In his words, the foreign policy line of both states, aimed at strengthening of the strategic cooperation, has not undergone notable changes. The consistency of Armenia and Russia in arranging close cooperation is conditioned by commonality of the historical and cultural values and centuries-long ties between the peoples of Armenia and Russia. According to the diplomat, the high level of strategic interaction between Armenia and Russia in the political arena and the military and political relations stimulates trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. "The announcement of 2005 as Year of Russia in Armenia, and 2005 year of Armenia in Russia will undoubtedly add to the development of the Armenian-Russian bilateral mutually favorable cooperation," A. Smbatyan said. In his words, numerous political, economic, scientific, educational, cultural and art events are planned within the framework of the Year of Armenia in Russia. These are visits of top delegations, business forums, art and photo exhibitions, concerts, etc. The holding of the Year of Armenia in Russia provides an opportunity to activate the trade and economic cooperation between Armenia and Russia, arrange new ties between business circles of the two countries. The Year of Armenia in Russia will also give Russians an opportunity of closer acquaintance with the rich and original culture of Armenia.
