Baku: Neither U.S. Nor Russia Will Shake Up Karabakh Issue

PanARMENIAN.Net - "Karabakh process will undergo no changes. Pressure upon Azerbaijan may increase but neither the U.S. nor Russia will dare to impose a pro-Armenian decision," said Arif Yunusov, the Director of the Department of Conflictology at the Institute of Peace and Democracy. "The reason is not liking for Armenia or Azerbaijan. The U.S. and Russia have their own interests in the region and proceeding from these interests they determine the attitude about the Karabakh conflict. Russia understands that the final settlement of the Karabakh conflict will push her out of the region and result in strengthening of U.S. positions," Yunusov said. In his words, Russia's attitude towards the Abkhazian and South Ossetian conflicts, which is eyed as an instrument of pressure upon Georgia and its back, the United States, is conditioned by this fact. "That is why Russia will picture a desire to promote the Karabakh settlement but actually will practice another line. For its part the U.S. fears that if the Nagorno Karabakh conflict is perceived by the Azeri public negatively it will provoke growth of anti-Armenian mood and strengthen the positions of Russia or the radical Islamic forces, reports Day.az.
