Armenia to use atomic power for peaceful purposes

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan met Tuesday with chairman of the RA Nuclear Energy Safety Council Adolf Birkhofen (Germany), the RA leader's press office told PanARMENIAN.Net



The President appreciated highly Mr. Birkhofen's efforts for safe exploitation of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (ANPP) and thanked him for the work he has been doing for 12 years already.



"Energy issues are always in the limelight of the Armenian government," President Sargsyan said, adding that Armenia is willing to use the atomic power for peaceful purposes and to build new hydroelectric power plants.



For his part, Mr. Birkhofen said, "You can be proud of the work done during the past years for secure operation of the NPP. Owing to the efforts and knowledge of your government, the NPP has been fully renovated. It is highly secure, as compared to the other NPPs throughout the globe."
