ARMENIA TO COMMEMORATE GREEK GENOCIDE MEMORIAL DAY

PanARMENIAN.Net - May 19 the memorial day of the victims of the genocide of Greeks in Ottoman Turkey will be marked in Armenia. Since 1916 the government of "Young Turks" and then Cemal followers carried out purposeful policy on extirpation of Greeks. As a result, over three hundred of Greeks were killed and about 1.5 million escaped. May 19 the procession to the Armenian genocide victims' memorial as well as other actions will be held. The officials of Greek embassy in Armenia, representatives of social and political organizations will participate in the ceremony. It should be reminded the Greek communities of Armenian and Nagorno Karabakh as well as a number of parties raise the issue regarding the need to recognize the fact of the Greek genocide in Ottoman Turkey on official level. As it is known, the Greek parliament recognized the fact of the 1915 Armenian genocide in 1996.
