MIRAMAX HAS ACQUIRED U.S. DISTRIBUTION RIGHTS TO NEW FILM ABOUT ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

PanARMENIAN.Net - YEREVAN, May 31. /Mediamax/. Miramax Films has acquired the US distribution rights to "Ararat" written and directed by Atom Egoyan about the Genocide of Armenians in 1915.

Miramax co-chairman Harvey Weinstein has announced that the company is excited to show "such an important film about such a serious subject".

The movie stars Charles Aznavour - the French-Armenian actor and singer. In typically layered Egoyan fashion, the story concerns a film director, played by Aznavour, who returns to Armenia to make a film about the Genocide.

Ararat, which tells the story of the 1915 Turkish massacre of Armenians, was picked up at the 54th Cannes Festival for distribution in France, Italy, Spain, Greece, Ireland, Russia, Singapore and Israel. --0--
