Iran riots continue: two people killed

PanARMENIAN.Net - Members of the Iranian parliament have condemned anti-government protesters and called for the death of two opposition leaders, as Tehran prepares for a second day of demonstrations.

Yesterday, security forces fired tear gas to break up the protests and two people were reported to have been killed.

The Iranian unrest is the latest in the wave of protests sparked by Tunisia and Egypt.

Spurred on by what they've seen in Egypt, thousands of anti-government protestors in Iran took to the streets overnight. They're chanting, "Mubarak, Bin-Ali, now it's your turn, Seyed Ali," the first names of Iran's Supreme Leader, the Ayatollah Khomeini.

This is a rare show of dissent against the country's entrenched ruler. It's been met with a firm hand by the security forces who responded with tear gas and paintball pellets, ABC reports.

Spain says a senior Spanish diplomat in Tehran was detained and held for four hours and that Iran's ambassador in Madrid was summoned for an explanation.

A Foreign Ministry official told The Associated Press on Tuesday that Ignacio Perez Cambra, the Number three diplomat at the Spanish Embassy in Tehran, was stopped while riding in a car to the embassy in Tehran on Monday and taken to a police station.
