Ongoing bloodshed in Middle East
Turkey is one of those countries which provide much support to the Syrian opposition.
In addition to the unrest in Middle East and Syria, Israel launched another operation against Hamas in Gaza Strip - the Pillar of Cloud. Escalation of tensions in the region is linked to the recent presidential elections in the U.S., as well as the upcoming vote in Israel. As to Syria, Turkey is trying to get its dividends here.

Ankara’s hand behind Syrian militants has been repeatedly mentioned, with confirmations coming both from the Syrian side and, surprisingly, the Turkish one. Turkey recognizes the National opposition coalition of Syria as the sole legitimate representative of the people of Syria, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said at a meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Djibouti. Davutoglu called on OIC members to follow Ankara's example, while the French president Francois Hollande said they recognize the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces as the future legitimate government of Syria.Earlier, Syrian opposition forces gathered in Doha, Qatar for consultations; as a result, an agreement to set up the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces was signed, to represent the interests of all those opposing the current president Bashar al-Assad.

Turkey is one of those countries which provide much support to the Syrian opposition. The Syrian National Council established in October 2011 is based in Istanbul, so is the Free Syrian Army, the military wing of the opposition.

Turkish President Abdullah Gül has already warned that potential escalation of violence at the Syrian-Turkish border may result in hostilities. He said Ankara reserves the right to use any kind of weapon to oppose the threat of its southern neighbour. Also, Patriot surface-to-air missiles may be deployed along the border with Syria in the near future.

The Turkish authorities are now evacuating the population from the frontier settlements since the hostilities are taking place in immediate proximity to the country’s border, and the missiles and shells may hit the residential areas.

On November 12, a shell hit the territory of an eastern province during a Syrian air strike in the town of Ras Al-Ayn. Following the incident, artillery troops are deployed in frontier regions, and jets in Diyarbakir air base in south-eastern Turkey are on alert now.

AFP quoted Abu Abdo, a weapon smuggler who channels weapons and money from Turkey to Syria as saying that "If Turkey tightens the security on the Syrian-Turkish borders, then the 'repels' will lose in ten days."

The information provided by Abdo confirms that the Turkish Justice and Development Party takes part in the Syrian bloodshed, along with the Saudi and Qatar oil sheikhs whose money funds weapon channelling to the militants through the Turkish-Syrian border.

Meanwhile, new evidence proving Turkey's involvement in the destruction of the Syrian state is increasingly growing; many witness the weapon smuggling through the Syrian-Turkish border.

On November 14, Israel launched a massive strike against the Palestinian Hamas movement which governs the Gaza Strip. As reported, the operation aimed to stop the shelling of Israel; however, there were political implications behind the Israeli leadership’s offensive as well. The Pillar of Cloud started quite efficiently: the air strike blew up the vehicle of Ahmed al-Jabari, the head of the Hamas military wing in which he travelled through Gaza. Israel’s move is quite understandable: the Gaza Strip constantly shells the southern part of the country, and the local population needs to be defended. The world “condemning” Israel should also consider the situation of the people who live in constant fear of another missile strike.

According to Tel-Aviv, the Israeli jets target only military facilities of Hamas, but the Gaza toll includes casualties among the civilians and children. The Israeli military says it has no intention to stop the operation. The offensive is already being compared to the recent large military operation in Gaza Strip, namely the Cast Lead. Four years ago, it also started all of a sudden, and ahead of the elections, too. Will this “small triumphant operation” contribute to collecting votes for the ruling party in Knesset elections? Anyway, Israeli tanks are already deployed in regions bordering on Gaza, and the command for the incursion into the Strip may arrive any moment now.

The Gaza Strip is a piece of land approximately 50 kilometres long and from 6 to 12 kilometres wide. It has been under the British, Egyptian, and Israeli rule, and governed by Hamas, which Israel, the U.S., EU, Canada, and Japan believe to be terroristic organization.
