Internet prices may go down in 2010

Prices for Internet services may go down in 2010, Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said during the 10th anniversary congress of the Union of Information Technologies Enterprises (UITE) on April 14. He said the government will address problems persisting in the field.

Meanwhile The Public Services Regulatory Committee adopted a decision obliging Internet operators ensure peer-to-peer connection (a communications model in which each party has the same capabilities and either party can initiate a communication session).

One of the key events of the week was the signature of a memorandum of cooperation in the filed of information technologies between the RA Ministry of Economy and the RF Federal Agency on CIS affairs, compatriots living abroad and international humanitarian cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo). According to Armenian Economy Minsiter Nerses Yeritsyan, the memorandum envisages establishment of the pioneer Armenian-Russian innovation center, which will bring together leading specialists in the filed.

Besides, Armenia is planning to establish a permanent representation is San Jose, the “Capital of Silicon Valley.” The Armenian government pledges assistance to IT companies in implementation of the project.

It’s also worth mentioning Armenia’s program envisaging participation of a number of IT companies from eastern and southern Europe in DigiTec business forum was approved during RCI IT B2B Matchmaking Summit in Macedonia.

Academician Yuri Oganessian, one of the scientists from Russian and American which has discovered element 117 will give a report during the annual meeting of the RA National Academy of Sciences due on April 21-23. The event will bring together famous scientists, foreign members of the RA NAS from Russia, U.S., Sweden, France, Ukraine and Belarus, who will speak on fundamental science achievements, as well as will refer to political, economic and social issues.

Synopsys Armenia and Yerevan State Engineering University announced admission for Microelectronic Circuits and Systems bachelor program at the interdepartmental chair for 2010-2011.
