Armenian Greco-Roman wrestlers finish 3rd, freestyle wrestling team comes 11th at Dortmund 2011
The national teams will soon start trainings to get prepared for various international tournaments, the main target being the World Championships scheduled for September 12-18 in Istanbul.
Sports lovers were attentively following the development at the European Wrestling Championships in Dortmund, Germany, which brought together 686 wrestlers from 43 countries. Armenia was represented in all of 7 weight categories.

Armenia's Musa Murtazaliyev was the only among freestyle wrestlers to win medal. Having defeated his rivals from Spain, Bulgaria and Georgia, Murtazaliyev was beaten by Denis Tsargush of Russia. Ashot Terteryan (60kg) and Edgar Yenokyan (96kg) failed to win medals. Mihran Jaburyan (55kg) dropped out of the 1/4 finals, Zhirayr Hovhannisyan, (66kg) and Ruslan Basiyev (120kg) lost their 1/8 fights.

Greco-Roman wrestlers proved to be more successful, having won 3 medals in 4 weight categories. Roman Amoyan, silver medalist of the World and European Championship won the tournament in under 55 kg category, having scored victories over all of his rivals, including Azerbaijani sportsman Vugar Akimov, representing Ukraine. Arthur Shahinyan and Yuri Patrikeev won bronze in 84 and 120 kg weigh classes respectively.

Arthur Alexanyan (96kg), world and European junor champ, grabbed silver. Alexanyan won all of his fights to be defeated by Timofey Dzeinichenk of Belarus in the final. Arsen Julfalakyan (under 74kg) was beaten by Russia's Roman Vlasov in a fight for the third place. Vahan Juaharyan (60kg) lost his 1/16 final fight and dropped out of the competition.

Thus, Armenia has 4 medals: Roman Amoyan (55kg) - gold, Arhur Alexanyan (96kg) - silver, Arthur Shahinyan (84kg) and Yuri Patrikeev (120kg) - bronze.

After a short pause, the national teams will start trainings to get prepared for various international tournaments, the main target being the World Championships scheduled for September 12-18 in Istanbul, Turkey, where the sportsmen will qualify for 2012 Olympic Games.
