At the famed Bördelandhalle in Magdeburg, Germany, WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz (40-2, 23 KOs) beat Khoren Gevor (31-6, 16 KOs) with a ten round disqualification. The fight had more than it's fair share of fouls from Gevor, a late replacement for Dimitri Sartison. Gevor received multiple warnings from the referee and was penalized a point for his tactics. During the tenth, it was hard to tell who initiated the tackle from the televised angle, but both fighters went down very hard. The referee blamed Gevor for the foul and issued a disqualification call. Stieglitz suffered a bad cut above the right eye from the incident. After the bout was over, Gevor attacked the referee and was escorted away by security officials. Later, Gevor has personally apologized to referee Manfred Kuchler, whom he threw several punches at and ripped verbally after being disqualified.

WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (27-1, 20 KO's) feels confident that he can not only beat 42-year-old Glen Johnson (51-14-2, 35 KO's) but make it look good by knocking him out on Showtime on June 4th in his semifinal bout at the Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Froch said “I don't just plan on beating him [Johnson], but I plan on halting him in style. Our styles gel very well for a competitive battle for as long as it lasts and I'm looking forward to it…I won't be overlooking Johnson in any shape or form, which will spell bad news for Glen.”

In what will be a hotly contested 12-round co-feature, former two-division world champion Vic “Raging Bull” Darchinyan (35-3-1, 27 KOs), will clash in a must-win tournament consolation bout at The Bantamweight Tournament Final: Winner Takes All on April 24. “I'm changing my style again. I'm going to knock out everyone in front of me. This time it's Yonnhy Perez. He's a good fighter, it's nothing personal, I'm just coming to knock him out. People talk about when I moved to bantamweight and say I'm not as powerful as I was at 115 pounds? You will see how powerful I am at bantamweight,” Darchinyan said during a media conference call. “On the other side of the world, in Armenia, April 24 is Armenian Genocide victims commemoration day. I want everyone to see this fight and see how motivated I am for this fight. All my team is going to come and commemorate 1915 Genocide victims,” the boxer said.

Weightlifting: Armenia's Smbat Margaryan won the clean & jerk bronze at the European Weightlifting Championships in Kazan, Russia. Having unsuccessfully performed the snatch (105kg), Margaryan finished 9th, lifting 254kg in the snatch and clean& jerk combination. Moldova's Oleg Sigri grabbed gold with 265kg.

Elen Grigoryan (53kg) won silver, lifting 195kg in snatch (85kg, silver) and clean & jerk (110kg, silver). Aylin Dasdelen (Turkey) won the champion's title, lifting 202kg.
