Armenia to join Earth Hour global campaign March 31

In the framework of the Earth Hour global campaign, electricity in municipal buildings, street and statue lighting will be switched off in Armenia’s cities of Yerevan, Vanadzor and Kapan from 8:30-9:30 pm local time, on March 31, representatives of World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Armenia, RA Ministry of Nature Protection and Yerevan Municipality said.

The campaign aims to encourage the public, business circles and government to turn off electric devices for an hour for the sake of the maintenance of our planet’s resources.

United Nations Resident Coordinator Mrs. Dafina Gercheva calls on Armenian citizens to join the world population.

“Let’s once again join the global campaign and have our own input to the struggle against the climate change,” she said.

Head of Environmental Protection Department Aram Gabrielyan deems calling public attention to environmental issues as the campaign’s key goal.

Over 5200 from 135 countries joined Earth Hour global campaign last year.
