Armenian expert: Iran may become counterweight to Pakistan

War with Iran will have grave consequences for the whole South Caucasus region, first of all Armenia, according to a political analyst.

“Armenia’s energetic stability will suffer greatly due to Iran’s being the only alternative to unreliable Georgia,” Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan told a press conference, linking the U.S. tough rhetoric on Iran with the forthcoming elections and the need for powerful Jewish lobby’s backing.

“The U.S. currently has 3 allies in the Middle East-Israel: Israel, Saudi Arabia and Turkey. All these three countries attempt to deter strengthening of Iran, though they hold different stances. On the other hand, Iran won’t shift its position on Pakistan following development of a nuclear weapon,” the political analyst said.

According to him, Iran is greatly concerned over Pakistan, which possesses a nuclear weapon. Mr. Melik-Shahnazaryan further forecast Iran’s becoming counterweight to Pakistan and its stabilizing factor in the region.
