Armenian government mulls proper examination of nuke accidents

The Armenian government approved at its April 5 session the order of investigation into accidents occurring during operation of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (NPP).

Ashot Martirosyan, head of the State Committee on Nuclear Security Regulation said the examination of accidents should be carried out in line with demands of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Environmentalists claim that potential accidents and risk of man-caused wrecks at NPP can result in radioactive pollution of the environment, irradiation of the plant’s staff and population.

An ad hoc commission will determine the order of investigation, commission members to be approved by the company that operates the NPP.
