Kurt Cobain writing song for solo album before death - Hole guitarist

Kurt Cobain was preparing songs for a solo album in the time leading up to his 1994 suicide, according to former Hole guitarist Eric Erlandson, The Wrap reported.

Erlandson, the former bandmate of Cobain's widow Courtney Love, told Fuse TV that the deceased Nirvana frontman was "headed in a direction that was really cool. It would have been his White Album," referring to the Beatles' 1968, self-titled double album.

“That’s really what he was going towards, a solo album but working with different people. I was really excited about some of the stuff he was working on. I got to see him play it in front of me," Erlandson said. "That’s why I was really sad [when he died]. I was like, ‘Oh man, not only are you cutting off a life, but a message to the world, a musical path is just left with … [rock band] Bush and all this other stuff [laughs]. He was cut short. Who knows where the music would have gone.”

Cobain fatally shot himself at his Seattle home on April 5, 1994. He was 27. Erlandson recently published "Letters to Kurt," a collection of poems inspired by Cobain.
