Modernization of cultural heritage is being opposed in Armenia, Culture Minister Hasmik Poghosyan said on April 21.
Speaking at the two-day UNESCO's “Cultural Policy and Policy for Culture: Culture and Development” conference organized in Matenadaran (the museum-institute of ancient manuscripts) in Yerevan, the Minister said the cultural heritage is treated in a conservative way in the country.
This is good, indeed, but it also results in mentality being static, Poghosyan said adding that much work should be done to eliminate these stereotypes.
The event organized by Armenian Ministry of Culture with the support of the UNESCO Moscow Office, brought together UNESCO representatives, culture ministries delegations from other countries, members of international literature organizations, etc.
Two plenary sessions will include panel discussion on World Heritage and Sustainable Development: Issues and Prospects and Cultural Diversity for Development: Written Heritage in Focus.
