Russell Crowe signs on to star in Darren Aronofsky's Noah

Russell Crowe has officially signed on to star in Darren Aronofsky's Noah, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Paramount will release the retelling of the Biblical story of Noah’s Ark on March 28, 2014. The movie will begin production in Iceland and New York in July.

"I’d like to thank Paramount and Regency for backing my team's work to breathe new life into the biblical epic. I rejoice that Russell Crowe will be by my side on this adventure. It's his immense talent that helps me to sleep at night. I look forward to being wowed by him every day," Aronofsky said in a statement.

Noah was written by Aronofsky, Ari Handel and John Logan (Hugo). Aronofsky and Scott Franklin of Protozoa Pictures and Mary Parent of Disruption Entertainment will produce. Executive producers include Handel, Arnon Milchan and Chris Brigham.

The WME-repped Crowe most recently starred in 2010's Robin Hood and The Next Three Days. He next appears in Broken City and Man of Steel and is currently filming Les Miserables.
