CIS observing mission continues monitoring of the election campaign ahead of the elections to the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.

According to the Mission headquarters, the CIS observation staff is almost finalized.

The Central Electoral Commission of Armenia got accreditation applications from 160 observers representing the Commonwealth States including Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, as well as the Interparliamentary Assembly of CIS member states, Parliamentary Assembly of Belarus-Russia Union and CIS Executive Committee.

Within their monitoring activities, the Mission Headquarters leadership held meetings in the Armenian government, as well as with OSCE/ODIHR mission head to discuss the current election campaign.

The monitoring mission also met with leadership of Heritage party’s election office.

After studying the work of district and neighborhood electoral commissions in Armenia’s Syunik, Vayots Dzor, Armavir and Aragatsotn provinces, the observers mentioned the transparency of their activities.

Parliamentary elections are due in Armenia on May 6 featuring 8 political parties (Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), Prosperous Armenia, ARF Dashnaktsutyun (ARFD), Orinats Yerkir, Heritage, Democratic Party of Armenia (DPA), Communist Party of Armenia and United Armenian party, as well as one election bloc represented by opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC).
