Row over YSLU rector will cost RPA 30-40 votes – expert

The row over the dismissal of Yerevan State Linguistic University (YSLU) rector Suren Zolyan from position may seriously affect the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) during the forthcoming parliamentary elections, political analyst said.

As Stepan Grigoryan told a press conference, the conflict between Mr. Zolyan and Armenian Education Minister Armen Ashotyan may cost RPA minimum 30-40 thous. votes.

“Though the conflict didn’t bear political character, it will seriously affect RPA in the eyes of public,” the expert said.

On April 17, Armenian Minister Ashotyan signed a decree to dismiss YSLU rector Suren Zolyan; following it, the university’s students waged a protest action to oppose the decision.
