Iran to build new generation of fighter jets

A senior commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) said the country plans to build a new generation of the indigenous Saeqeh (Thunderbolt) fighter jets with enhanced radar systems and smart munitions, according to Fars News Agency.

"The improvement of the systems of the Saeqeh fighter jets is constantly underway by Iranian experts," IRIAF Deputy Commander for Coordination Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh said.

He added that the IRIAF also plans to increase the range of missiles, upgrade air-to-air missiles, boost the range of radars, and update aircraft electronic systems in cooperation with Iran's Defense Ministry.

The military commander further stated that the IRIAF would hold different maneuvers during the current Iranian calendar year (started on March 20) to display its capabilities.
