GEORGIANS PROTEST AGAINST BAKU-TBILISI-CEYHAN OIL PIPELINE CONSTRUCTION
Residents of the village of Krtsanisi situated not far from the Georgian capital are protesting against the construction of Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline. As reported to IA Regnum in the Georgian ministry of home affairs, the number of protesters is about 350-400 people. Some of them state of the non-payment by British Petroleum company of compensations for the usage of the land, through which the pipeline is to run, others demands to cede the lands for agricultural works. According to the source, the demonstrators beat several policemen, blocked the road thus impeding the construction works. Units of Special Forces were brought to Ktsianisi, several action participant arrested - two women among them as the organizers of the rally. At present the demonstrators are marching to Tbilisi with a claim to stop the construction of the BTD pipeline.
