Explosive device detonated near Turkish provincial mayor’s car

An explosive device was detonated next to a mayor's automobile in Turkey’s southern province of Hatay early on May 21 morning, Hurriyet Daily News reported.

Necmettin Acar, the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) mayor for Karaağaç, said he was at home watching television when he was jolted by a powerful explosion at around 3 am.

Acar said he went outside to see his car damaged in an apparent bomb attack. The blast also caused damage to Acar's house and lawn, and his neighbors came out of their homes in panic. No one was injured in the attack.

Police arrived at the scene and started an investigation to determine the type of explosive and the people who carried out the attack.

Acar said he did not have problems with anyone.
