LA Councilmember Paul Krekorian issues budget statement

Councilmember Paul Krekorian, chairman of the city’s Budget and Finance Committee, represents Los Angeles' Second Council District, released a statement following the City Council’s adoption of the 2012-13 budget:

“Today we approved a budget that takes a difficult but responsible approach to solving a $220 million deficit and enhancing the city’s solvency. The choices were not easy. We eliminated more than 400 funded positions, making the city’s workforce its smallest since the days Tom Bradley was mayor,” Councilmember Krekorian said.

“But we also continued our momentum toward building a strong reserve and solving our structural deficit once and for all. And, we have begun the work of restoring services essential to the core functions of city government, including in our fire department, Recreation and Parks Department and in our library system, without spending beyond our means. Clearly, much more work is ahead of us, but so are better days as we continue to reinvent the way Los Angeles does business,” he said.
