The Munich Film Festival will dedicate its retrospective this year to acclaimed independent filmmaker Todd Haynes, whose work includes the David Bowie homage Velvet Goldmine (1998), the Oscar-nominated Far From Heaven (2002) with Julianne Moore and Dennis Quaid and the Emmy-winning mini-series Mildred Pierce (2011) starring Kate Winslet, The Hollywood Reporter said.

“Todd Haynes is one of the United State's most interesting and experimental filmmakers,” said Munich festival director Diana Iljine. “Having him and his films here in Munich will be one of the highlights of this year's festival.”

The 2012 Munich festival, which runs June 29-July 7, will screen all of Haynes' work, from his early shorts Assassins: A Film Concerning Rimbaund (1985) and Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story (1988) to feature films including Safe (1995), Haynes' first collaboration with Julianne Moore, and the director's surreal Bob Dylan biopic I'm Not There (2007).

Haynes and cinematographer Edward Lachman, who worked with the director on Far From Heaven, I'm Not There and Mildred Pierce, will attend the Munich festival.

Haynes will participate in a Q&A session as part of Munich's filmmakers live sessions. Lachman will also sit on the jury for the ARRI Prize, given to the best international film screening at this year's fest.
