47 Camorra gang mobsters arrested in Italy

Police in Italy have arrested 47 people suspected of belonging to a prominent crime family of the Camorra, the Neapolitan version of the mafia, Sky News reported.

Prosecutors in Naples ordered the arrests which were carried out during early morning raids in six Italian regions: Campania, Abruzzo, Calabria, Emilia Romagna, Lazio and Lombardy.

Those taken into custody are alleged members of the Mallardo clan whose activities centre on drug trafficking and extortion. They face charges including belonging to a mafia organisation and illegal possession of firearms.

Authorities also seized some three million euros ($A3.81 million) in assets believed to belong to the crime syndicate.
