IRANIAN PRESIDENT VISITED MONUMENT TO ARMENIAN GENOCIDE VICTIMS
Today Iranian President Mohammad Khatami, who is on 2-day official call to Yerevan at present, visited the monument to the victims of the Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey and laid a wreath to the eternal fire. As director of the Genocide Museum Lavrenty Barseghian told journalists, after the Presidents of Tajikistan, Kirghizia and Lebanon M. Khatami is the forth leader of an Islamic state to have visited the memorial. It is extremely important that the head of such a big and friendly state of the South Caucasian region as Iran visited the place, which is holy for each Armenian, the museum director said. At the same time he expressed hope that Iran will recognize the Armenian Genocide soon.
