Armenian parliament adopts govt. program with 75 votes "for", 45 "against"

Parliament has adopted Armenian government program with 75 votes in favor and 47 against it; 4 out of 6 political forces – the opposition and Prosperous Armenia party voted to oppose the program, while ruling coalition members and Orinats Yerkir party voted for it.

Armenian parliament has been hosting government program debates for 2 days with opposition and Prosperous Armenia slamming the previous program.

“Seeing as the previous 5-year program failed, and with the government’s composition unchanged, the possibility for current program’s success is similarly unlikely, in view of unrealistic figures stipulated,” the opposition argued.

The opposition also noted the absence of specific time-frame among the program’s shortcomings.

However, as parliamentary speaker Hovik Abrahamyan stressed before the votes were cast, though aware of previous program’s faults, the ruling Republican Party of Armenia urges to support the program as “he who makes no mistakes, makes nothing.”

Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, in turn, urged the parliamentarians against being guided by their personal dislikes in making a decision.

The Prime Minister further expressed readiness to discuss opposition’s proposals and implement them if an agreement is reached on the latters.
