Young people under 35 total 40% of Armenian drug addicts

On June 26, on the occasion of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking Armenian Youth Foundation jointly with the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) youth wing implemented a program in Yerevan.

The event titled “Want to live!” aimed to inform the youth of the harmful effects of drug abuse, Youth Foundation’s press service reported PanARMENIAN.Net.

As coordinator of the Board of Trustees of Youth Foundation, RPA parliamentary group member Karen Avagyan noted, drug addiction has become one of the biggest problems of the modern world.

“For the past ten years, the number of drug addicts reached 210 million. Though the number of drug addicts in Armenia is not that big as compared with other countries, the number tends to grow. Such events aim to raise awareness on the harmful effects of drug abuse,” Mr. Avagyan said, noting that young people under 35 years of age total 40% of Armenian drug addicts.

The event featured a concert by Armenian rock band Dorians, with the frontman Gor Sujyan stressing music as the best drug for him.
