OSCE Secretary General: Karabakh conflict major threat to regional security

Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is a major threat to regional security and economic development in the South Caucasus, Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) said.

"Negotiations are the only way to resolve the conflict, while the political will and commitment of all participants is a prerequisite for finding a peaceful solution," Lamberto Zannier told a news conference in Baku following a meeting with Azeri Foreign Minister.

Zannier further expressed support for OSCE Minsk Group's efforts in finding a solution to the conflict.

The OSCE Secretary General said he was "deeply concerned" by recent incidents on the line of contact, which are undermining efforts to achieve peace.

Visits to Georgia’s Tbilisi and Batumi, followed by a visit to Armenia are on OSCE official’s agenda.

Zannier will meet the high-ranking officials of both countries to discuss cooperation in military, economy and ecology sectors, Aze.az reported.
