5.0 magnitude earthquake hits southeastern Turkey

Turkey’s seismology center says a moderately strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.0 has shaken southeastern Turkey, The Associated Press reported.

There are no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

The Istanbul-based Kandilli Observatory says the quake occurred Sunday, July 22 in the southeastern province of Kahramanmaras.

Private NTV television says the quake was felt in neighboring provinces.

Earthquakes are frequent in Turkey. At least 644 people were killed in two earthquakes that hit the eastern province of Van last year.
