Representatives’ institute in Armenian, Russian parliaments discussed

Armenian and Russian parliament speakers Hovik Abrahamyan and Sergey Naryshkin discussed the possibility of establishment of an institute of parliamentary representatives in both countries’ legislative branches.

“Considering the close cooperation between Armenian, Russian parliaments and the need to deepen collaboration, Armenian side proposed to discuss setting up an institute of parliamentary representatives in Russian State Duma and RA National Assembly,” Mr. Abrahamyan said.

He further noted that Armenia will host the first meeting of CSTO member-countries’ parliamentary committee representatives on security and defense.

According to Mr. Abrahamyan, during a meeting with his Russian counterpart great importance was attached to issues related to interparliamentary cooperation particularly in different international organizations.

As a part of his official visit to Armenia, Russian State Duma speaker Sergey Naryshkin held discussions with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan and MPs on cooperation in the framework of the Eurasian Union.

“Armenian government tries to determine its place in the Eurasian project, acknowledging the importance of the Eurasian area for the development of trade and economic relations,” he told a joint press conference with RA National Assembly speaker Hovik Abrahamyan.
