U.S. Congressman: NKR presidential election showcase democracy

Congressman David Cicilline (D-RI), whose home state of Rhode Island has recognized the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh, released a statement on the occasion of the recent presidential elections in Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh) Republic.

He stated: "I congratulate the Nagorno Karabakh Republic on holding another free and fair presidential election - showcasing democracy in action for the rest of the world. In addition, I would like to recognize the invaluable contributions of former Rhode Island Attorney General Patrick Lynch, who assisted as an international observer."

Nagorno Karabakh held presidential elections on July 19. Bako Sahakyan, gained 47 085 (66,7%) of the votes to win the presidential race. His major rival Vitaly Balasanyan garnered 22 966 (32,5%) of votes while Arkady Soghomonyan received 594 (0,8%) of votes.
