Strong quake jolts Mauritius island

A 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck Thursday, July 26 in the Indian Ocean off the island of Mauritius, the U.S. Geological Service said.

According to AGP, the quake's epicenter was only 10 kilometers (6 miles) deep, but was 387 kilometers from Port Mathurin on the island of Rodrigues, and 976 kilometers from the Mauritius capital Port Louis.

No tsunami warning was immediately issued.
