Warner Bros mulls “Shining” prequel?

Warner Bros is considering a Shining prequel movie, Digital Spy reported citing Los Angeles Times.

The studio is "exploring the possibility" of a follow-up to the Stanley Kubrick classic.

Laeta Kalogridis and her partners Bradley Fischer and James Vanderbilt are attached as producers on the project, which a spokesman has said is in the very early stages and not formally in development yet.

The film is expected to focus on the events prior to the arrival of Jack Torrance - famously portrayed by Jack Nicholson in the original - and his family at the sinister Overlook Hotel.

Writer Stephen King is currently working on a sequel to The Shining, but it is yet to be revealed whether this will be linked to the film.

Kalogridis wrote Shutter Island for Martin Scorsese and also served as an executive producer and uncredited writer on James Cameron's Avatar.

A new adaptation of King's novel Carrie is also in the works, with Chloe Moretz in the starring role.
