U.S. singer Scott McKenzie dies at 73

U.S. singer Scott McKenzie, who sang "San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair)," the unofficial anthem of the counterculture movement of the 1960s, has died at the age of 73.

“It is with much sadness that we report the passing of Scott McKenzie in LA on 18th August, 2012. Scott had been very ill recently and passed away in his home after two weeks in hospital. It has been our pleasure to maintain this web site over the past 15 years and this is the hardest update of them all. Farewell our much loved and wonderful friend,” said a statement on the singer’s official website.

“Scott was in and out of hospital since 2010 after falling ill with Guillain-Barre Syndrome, a disease affecting the nervous system. It is thought he may have had a heart attack in early August, 2012. Staff did not want him to leave the hospital, but he wanted to be at home and passed away on 18th August 2012,” the statement said.
