Roger Federer confirmed as top seed in US Open men's singles

Five-time champion and world No 1 Roger Federer has been confirmed as the top seed in the men's singles at the US Open with Olympic champion Andy Murray No 3, dailymail.co.uk reported.

Murray, who lost to Federer in this summer's Wimbledon final, is ranked four in the world but is the third seed at Flushing Meadows following the withdrawal of Rafael Nadal because of a knee injury.

Defending champion Novak Djokovic is the second seed with Nadal's Spanish countryman David Ferrer No 4 as the US Open follows the latest ATP World Tour rankings to determine the men's singles seeds.

The singles draw for the tournament, which runs from August 27-September 9, will be made on Thursday, August 23.
