Rihanna was the big winner at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards presented Thursday, September 6 night at Staples Center in Los Angeles, TheWrap said.
Rihanna, who was nominated for five of the famed moonman awards, won the evening's top prize Video of the Year for "We Found Love."
Drake, who was also nominated for five awards, shared the prize for Best Hip-Hop Video with Lil Wayne for "HYFR." He was up for Video of the Year for "Take Care," as well as Best Male Video, Best Hip-Hop Video, Best Art Direction and Best Cinematography. One Direction's "What Makes You Beautiful" won for Best New Artist beating Frank Ocean's "Swim Good," Fun's "We Are Young" with Janelle Monae," Carly Rae Jepsen for "Call Me Maybe," and The Wanted's "Glad You Came."
Other artists who contended for the coveted Video of the Year were: Katy Perry's "Wide Awake," M.I.A.'s "Bad Girls" and the much-loved "Somebody That I Used To Know" by Gotye.
