Armenia’s parliament vice-speaker commented on September 9 local government elections, disagreeing with the reports of a number of violations during polls.

“Everything is relative. Compared to previous elections, current polls were much more positive; they were held in accordance with democratic standards, with no scandals reported,” Eduard Sharmazanov said.

As he noted, good results shown at local government elections by the ruling Republican Party of Armenia representatives, proves the party has retained its influence on the threshold of presidential polls.

Commenting on the incidents with disappearing stamps in voters’ passports, Sharmzanov advised to address the issue to Central Electoral Commission. “However, the disappearing stamps can’t become a serious hindrance on the way to high-quality elections,” Sharmazanov said.
