Lithuanian MPs condemn Azeri axe-killer’s release

Vice-speaker of Armenian parliament, co-chair of Armenia-Lithuania parliamentary friendship group Eduard Sharmazanov had a phone conversation with the Lithuanian co-chair of the group Algis Kaseta.

Mr. Sharmazanov welcomed the statement by the members of Lithuanian Sejm condemning Azeri President Ilham Aliyev’s pardon of Ramil Safarov, convicted for axe-murdering an Armenian officer.

In their statement, Lithuanian MPs slammed the criminal’s release as contradictory to international norms and capable of undermining Karabakh conflict settlement talks.

The Armenian official, in turn, expressed appreciation for his Lithuanian colleagues’ response and their adherence to democratic and humanitarian values, Armenian National Assembly press service reported.
