Russian expert predicts positive breakthrough in Armenian-Turkish ties

A Russian political analyst believes a positive breakthrough in Armenian-Turkish relations might be expected.

In an interview to Analitika.at.ua Stanislav Tarasov commented on reports of restoration works on a Turkish highway at the border with Armenia.

“Currently, Turkey has been under a lot of pressure to ratify Zurich Protocols with Armenia, as proved by a number of statements by European politicians as well as France’s actions,” the expert said.

“However, so far, it’s only an assumption. Nevertheless, it seems like Transcaucasia is entering the phase of certain geopolitical changes,” he concluded.

Asphalting and expansion works are in progress on Turkey’s Igdir highway on the border with Armenia, Turkish media reported earlier.

In this context, local population expressed concern over a possible link between restoration works and opening of the border with Armenia.
