Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister resigns

Kazakh Prime Minister Karim Masimov has resigned, according to RIA Novosti.

“President Nursultan Nazarbayev has relieved the Prime Minister of his duties as requested," the presidential press center said on its Twitter account.

A government source told RIA Novosti previously that Deputy Prime Minister Serik Akhmetov will replace Masimov, who will be named to head the presidential administration.

Masimov, 47, had been Kazakhstan's Prime Minister since January 2007.
