Expert says Armenia may get only financial compensation from Azerbaijan

Armenia and Hayk Makuchyan (colleague of Armenian officer Gurgen Margaryan, murdered by Azerbaijani criminal Ramil Safarov) may get financial compensation and political leverage from Azerbaijan through the European Court of Human Rights or other international institutions, expert said.

According to Levon Gevorgyan, Azerbaijan’s pardon of Ramil Safarov, who committed a murder out of ethnic hatred, proves a violation of the right to life.

“The trial at the European court may take several years, with Hayk Makuchyan to get financial compensation of several thousand euros as a result,” the expert said.

Dwelling on political leverage against Azerbaijan, Mr. Gevorgyan noted that trial will prove the impossibility of Artsakh peoples’ life as part of Azerbaijan.

“Such precedents have already been recorded in the past history of the European Court of Human Rights, particularly against Georgia and Turkey,” Mr. Gevorgyan said.
