Greek police fired teargas at protesters throwing stones and petrol bombs in Athens on Wednesday, as at least 50,000 striking workers marched to parliament in the country's biggest anti-austerity rally in months, Reuters reports.
This is the first general strike since the country's coalition government was formed in June, as the prime minister and finance minister hammered out a package of €11.5 billion ($14.87 billion) in spending cuts.
The Greek strike comes a day after clashes with police during anti-austerity demonstrations in Spain left 64 people injured.
