Google’s Play Store boasts 675,000 apps

Google’s Play Store has achieved another impressive milestone after the company announced its marketplace now has over 675,000 apps and has served more than 25 billion downloads, The Next Web reports.

To celebrate its achievement, Google has kickstarted a new five day app promotion, offering 25 cent downloads of apps from the Store’s biggest developers, which includes Gameloft, Electronic Arts, Rovio, runtastic and Full Fat.

It will also offer “special collections like 25 movies you must own, 25 banned books, 25 albums that changed the world and our 25 top selling magazines” at reduced prices.

At the Google I/O developer event, the company announced that there were 600,000 games and apps available for Android devices. At the time, those titles had been downloaded more than 20 billion times.

The figures show that Google is closing the gap on Apple, which recently announced that 90% of the 700,000 apps in the App Store are downloaded every month.
