Paper: President seeks to acquire Vorotan hydro power

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan seeks to buy Vorotan Cascade hydropower plant, according to Chorrord Inknishkhanutyun daily.

As sources close to the authorities say, the purchase was supposed to be finalized before the 2013 presidential elections. However, back in 2012, the plant was rumored to have been bought by Russians. With rumors proving false, President Sargsyan is now intending to get the plant, according to the daily.

The plant, providing 20% of electricity in Armenia, is currently placed under the jurisdiction of Ministry of Energy, with the self-cost of the product being the lowest one in Armenia.
