A total of 115 kilograms of heroin, 121 kilograms of marijuana and 15 kilograms of illicit pills being kept at a Diyarbakır courthouse were discovered stolen, according to Today’s Zaman.

The burglary took place at the Diyarbakır courthouse, thought to be among Turkey's best-protected buildings. The drugs, seized in various anti-drug smuggling operations in the region, were being stored in specials rooms on the basement floor of the courthouse.

The theft was noticed when officials working on the basement floor found damage to a room where judicial documents and evidence seized in criminal investigations are kept. The officials informed the chief prosecutor's office, which immediately inventoried the items stored in the basement.

The Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the incident. Thirteen workers from a private cleaning subcontractor firm and two police officers responsible for the security of the building have been detained.
