Japan, Iran mull agreement on extradition of criminals

Japan's outgoing ambassador to Iran Kinichi Kumano announced that Tehran and Tokyo are in talks over an agreement on the extradition of criminals.

"We are in talks over the agreement on the extradition of criminals and many steps have been taken and we hope that we can reach a final agreement soon; a number of meetings have been held, some questions have been raised and we have received some responses from Iran," Kumano told Fars news agency on Saturday, Oct 13.

"There exists certain rules and regulations in this regard," he said, according to FNA, and added, "the technical and trivial issues are about to finish and final negotiations will be held in the near future."

Diplomatic relations between Iran and Japan were formally established in 1926.
