Famed French composer Michel Legrand in Armenia

Renowned composer, conductor, and pianist Michel Legrand of Armenian descent arrived in Yerevan October 18.

“I’m currently working on my first ballet,” the composer told a press conference, voicing intention to write music for his second ballet later.

Legrand was invited to Yerevan by Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra to celebrate the composer’s 80th birthday and to headline a concert at the closing ceremony Yerevan 6th International Music Festival.

Legrand has composed more than two hundred film and television scores and several musicals and has made well over a hundred albums. He is currently working on the symphonic pieces ordered by Vladimir Spivakov and Philadelphia orchestra.

“I don’t feel my age. That’s no obstacle for me,” he said.

Legrand has won three Oscars (out of 13 nominations) and five Grammys and has been nominated for an Emmy.
