Sharp, Foxconn announce price for 60-inch LCD TV

Sharp and Foxconn Electronics’ 60-inch LCD TV will have a NT$38,000 (US$1,300) price tag in Taiwan if buyers sign a two-year contract with Taiwan-based telecom providers, DigiTimes reported citing industry sources.

Recently at a press conference in Taiwan, Foxconn chairman Terry Gou said the TV was an effort to promote HD digital content in Taiwan, and that the TV is being sold as a carrier rather than just a TV set.

However, the chairman has yet to reveal the TV's pricing, but the sources said the unit's pricing will be NT$38,000 if buyers sign a two year contract or NT$59,000 without a contract.

Additionally, the sources expect that the TV will be equipped with VOD and Internet TV functions, and that it will also be a Full HD unit that has LED backlighting.

Meanwhile, Foxconn will hold a press conferences Nov 8 with Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan's largest telecom operator, which also has ISP and cable TV business units, and cable TV operator Kbro to introduce its 60-inch LCD TV, Gou added at the press conference.
